Major League Baseball recently had a press conference to disclose the fining from the Mitchell Report, a 409 page document that former Senator George Mitchell and his staff took 20 months to investigate the problems of steroids and other performance enhancements drugs that have seem to over run baseball. After 20 months and over 20 million dollars later, The list names 70 plus players in an effort to give some sort of closer on the steroids era for MLB.
Let’s
look and what you got for your 20 million dollars. A document that’s 409 pages
long seems impressive, it must be packed full of top notch sources, players
incites, team official documents, and thousands of hours of depositions from
meetings with players.
Guess
what? You got squat!!! No, no current players with the exception of Jason
Giambi would even talk to you. The MLB Players Union wouldn’t cooperate with
you. The teams didn’t release any current test they have, and list of names
that we already knew.
Roger
Clemens did steroids, what a surprise, 40-year-old pitcher that still throws 90
plus on the gun. Pitching 200 innings a season, sub 3.2 ERA.
Jose Canseco the guy who wrote a book
entitled “Juiced” back 2001.
Canseco
was written off a disgruntled ex-athlete whose career was over. Canseco said in his book that 85% of the
players were using steroids. He named several players in his book
including: Jason Giambi Rafael Palmeiro
Ivan Rodriguez, and Juan Gonzalez. Funny thing about the Mitchell Report. they
site Jose Canseco book “Juiced” in their report as one of the sources. In an
ironic twist Jose Canseco was denied entrance to the press conference when MLB
disclosed the findings from the report.
Eric
Gagne what another surprise, an average pitcher who’s career took off as a
closer. In a strange twist once the
drug testing policy started to take hold, the last three seasons he is always
hurt and when he pitches his ERA has been terrible, 6.75 last season with the
Red Sox.
Barry
Bonds is on the list. Do I have to say anything about Mr. Bond’s career and
physical chances? I will say this though. Everyone wanted to kill Bonds for
“cheating the game” I think a lot of hypocrites out there should practice some
balanced journalism and start killing some of these other ballplayers.
Let
look at the Mitchell Report top sources:
Brian McNamee, a former trainer for the New York Yankees and former New
York Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski.
Radomski pleaded guilty to illegal steroid
distribution earlier this year, agreeing to participate with former Senator
Mitchell only as part of his plea bargain.
Brian
McNamee who was essentially the personal trainer of Andy Pettie and Roger
Clemens, Brian McNamee services were not retained after 2002 after he was
questioned by police in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a woman in
a hotel pool late in the 2001 season. Police said the woman ingested the
date-rape drug GHB. Charges were never filed against Mr. McNamee.
So
at a rate of basically one million dollars a month you got a report derived
from an ex-personal trainer, an ex-club house attendant, and an un-factual book
that MLB wouldn’t even acknowledge its author presence at the press conference.
Where are the informants from other teams? (Mets and Yankees fans must be
pissed) Also did I forget to mention that this report didn’t name Mark McGwire
or Sammy Sosa. That’s some top-notch
investigative work Mr. Mitchell.
