American Airlines canceled more than 900 flights Thursday as it continues to perform safety inspections on certain jets...Note that other airlines were affected as well. Travel insurance people! I can't stress this enough. The airlines will say that they will make good, give a refund, get you there somehow...but anyone who has ever had a flight cancelled for any reason knows that's a crapshoot.
Delta, Southwest, and United Airlines also have canceled a number of flights in recent weeks for safety checks.
American Airlines canceled 1,094 flights on Wednesday -- 43 percent of its total daily flights -- and 460 flights the day before, the company said in a statement. The flights were scrapped so inspectors could make sure the airline complied with a federal directive relating to how wires should be bundled in the wheel well of MD-80 jets, the company said.
So get the travel insurance, at the least you will get your money back.
Meanwhile, back to this giant fuckup. Doesn't this make you just a little uneasy? There you are hurtling through the air in a metal tube with wheels that is older than your grandmother, that it now seems noone bothers to maintenence properly. Somebody tell me again why airfare is so high? Oh yeah. The gas prices. Sigh.
