This is the final estimate. 4.9 million barrels of oil gushed in to the Gulf. That is 62,000 barrels a day since this disaster began on April 20th. Thank You BP! The thousands of fishermen and gulf coast workers all thank you for ruining their lives!
The US government on Monday said BP's ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico gushed an estimated 4.9 million barrels of oil, making it the largest accidental oil spill of all time.
They had calculated that of the 4.9 million barrels, 800,000 barrels were siphoned out of the water. Yeah, woo hoo!
I am hoping to see a fine against BP. Under the Clean Water Act, there is a fine of $1,100 per barrel but if gross negligence was determined, see that fine spike up to $4,300 per barrel resulting in an estimated $4 billion dollar fine.
Pffft - that is chump change for mega-oil giant.
Four billion dollars is not going to save the ecosystem. This will take decades! Lets reflect:

Decades for this ocean to completely heal!
Pay up BP!
