Fort Wood, Texas: 12 Dead, 13 wounded. An Army psychiatrist, about to be shipped to Iraq, went ballistic in his own military base.

A solider suspected of fatally shooting 12 and wounding 31 at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday is not dead as previously reported, Army Lt. Gen. Robert Cone said Thursday evening.

A civilian officer who was wounded in the incident shot the suspect, who is "in custody and in stable condition," Cone told reporters.

"Preliminary reports indicate there was a single shooter that was shot multiple times at the scene," Cone said at a news conference. "However, he was not killed as previously reported."

The suspect, identified as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, opened fire at a military processing center at Fort Hood around 1:30 p.m., Cone said.

Three others initially taken into custody for interviews have been released, Cone said.

Hasan, 39, is a graduate of Virginia Tech and a psychiatrist licensed in Virginia who was practicing at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, according to military and professional records. Previously, he worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

A federal official said Hasan is a U.S. citizen of Jordanian descent. Military documents show that Hasan was born in Virginia, and was never deployed outside the United States.

Hasan was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq "and appeared to be upset about that," Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, said.

"I think that there is a lot of investigation going on now into his background and what he was doing that was not known before," Hutchison said. At least 10 of the dead were soldiers, Cone said.

The shooter had two weapons, both handguns, Cone said. Link

This is the biggest mass killing on a military compound ever known.
And the soldier responsible is a head shrink?! WTF????!!!
According to records, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, 39yo, has never step foot in a war zone and never gone into combat, but as a psychiatrist, he would listen to horrible stories of war, stress and combat fatigue at Walter Reed Hospital. Here, a doctor who deals with mental illness of soldiers is himself mentally unbalanced and just went off the deep end today.

Hasan is a graduate of Virginia Tech (remember another mass shooting from that university) and an 8 year veteran from Virginia.
Speculation is that Hasan, a US Citizen of Jordanian descent, had a conflict with being deployed to Iraq. Investigators are still looking for a motive.
The latest news - Hasan is still alive.

A sad day for America.

“Team building" means a host of different things depending upon who you ask. Some feel that it's getting better acquainted, others think it should build trust, still others say it must improve communication, "bonding," or learning how to solve problems as a group. And everyone agrees that there is an element of fun, because team building uses interactive games and adventures. In reality, team building is all of the above and more. A good team building exercise creates positive interaction among a group of people, and in doing so enhances their ability to work effectively as a team when they return to the workplace.
