The total number of living Human Beings on this planet is estimated to reach 7 Billion in 2 years. As of today 08/13/09 at 04:27 GMT, the world population is at a projected 6,777,275,568 Billion (according to the US Census Bureau). That is about 261 humans born every second.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The world's population is forecast to hit 7 billion in 2011, the vast majority of its growth coming in developing and, in many cases, the poorest nations, a report released Wednesday said.
A staggering 97 percent of global growth over the next 40 years will happen in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, according to the Population Reference Bureau's 2009 World Population Data Sheet.
"The great bulk of today's 1.2 billion youth -- nearly 90 percent -- are in developing countries," said Carl Haub, a co-author of the report. Eight in 10 of those youth live in Africa and Asia.
"During the next few decades, these young people will most likely continue the current trend of moving from rural areas to cities in search of education and training opportunities, gainful employment, and adequate health care," Haub continued, calling it one of the major social questions of the next few decades.
In the developed world, the United States and Canada will account for most of the growth -- half from immigration and half from a natural increase in the population -- births minus deaths, according to the report.
High fertility rates and a young population base in the developing world will fuel most of the growth, especially in Africa, where women often give birth to six or seven children over a lifetime, the report says. The number is about two in the United States and 1.5 in Canada. Link
Can our planet sustain and support the increase Billions of People? And we can probably count 1 for 2 here in the United States, since we are the country with the highest percentage of overweight, obese and morbidly obese people in the world.
China is still Number 1 but India is not far behind and gaining (even expected to surpass China). Whew!
This currently makes the single largest ethnic group on this planet by far is the Han Chinese (yours truly!)
The population on this Earth is now 4x the number of people since 1900. Link
It was only 200 million in Year One (around the Birth of Christ, not the movie).
Hmmmm ... with this type of hard statistical facts, it puts a damper to the theory of reincarnation, especially for those who believe one-for-one.
With increase population and its major impact on Global Warming, I can somewhat see how Science and the Biblical Armaggedon (aka. Apocalyptic doom) could coincide. Right now, its just something to think about - don't lose sleep over it.
