This is Michael Sandy. At 29yo and living in New York - four young White men lured him to a parking lot and severly beat him. This happened on October 8, 2006. He was lured to plumb Beach after being on an online gay chatroom. He died after being hit with a car trying to escape his attackers.
His attackers later said they targeted Sandy because they were seeking gay men to attack and rob. This was a true Hate Crime.
Now what happened??? I just found out about this news last week! Why haven't I heard this last year??? Where was the media frenzy?? the Protests??
When a Black man is murder by a group of White men - wouldn't Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson be right there leading a protest?
This murder has some similarity to Matthew Shepard and Teena Brandon- where were the gay group marching down the street protesting?
If this murder happened to a gay White Man or a black straight man - it would flood the news - there would be outrage on the streets and heavy debates on the news.
It seems the mixture of being Black, Gay and Internet hookup for sex does Not make it High Profile.
