Incumbent Democrat Jenny Oropeza wins her own 28th District Senate Seat. She wins 58% to 36% over her Republican challenger, John Stammreich. One problem. Oropeza died last month due to complications of a blood clot.
LONG BEACH ( KTLA) -- The 28th State Senate District has been won by incumbent Sen. Jenny Oropeza, who died last month, setting the stage for a special election early next year.
Because her death was only two weeks before Tuesday's election, Oropeza's name remained on the ballot.
Oropeza easily won re-election over Republican opponent, John Stammreich, gathering 58% of the vote to his 36%.
Oropeza's seat will be declared vacant and a special election will be called in December.
Special elections for other state Senate seats in the area have cost over $2 million.
Oropeza died Oct. 20th of complications from a blood clot. The illness had caused her to miss most of this year's Senate session. Link
Why would the people of California vote for a dead candidate??? Maybe it is better to vote for a dead Democrat than a live Republican (no offense to the dearly departed and her family).
Well, her win will now push forth for a special election to fill her seat.
Hmmm, now I'm thinking - would I vote for Sarah Palin, even if she was dead? Pffft! I would vote for a ham sandwich 2 years from now before I vote for the Quitta from Wasilla.
