Sigh. What is wrong with Governor Robert Paterson of New York? Does he not follow the news? Has he been hiding in a deep dark cave, or did he just choose to ignore the trials and tribulations of fellow Democrat John Edwards? Paterson is now part of a long line of politicians whose career is on the line because he just needed to get a taste of the strange.
Gov. Paterson just can't seem to get away from rumors and reports that he's always on the prowl for women other than his attractive wife, Michelle.
"The trooper opened the door and the first thing he saw was the governor and a woman inside and the two of them snuggling together, embracing. There was nothing more than that, snuggling, and they had their clothes on.
"The trooper was startled and he later said that the governor was startled too, and so he quickly left. He then reported the incident to his superior," continued the source. The insider refused to identify the trooper because "he's a nervous wreck who is afraid that he's going to be transferred off of the [governor's] detail if his name comes out."
The state police protocol for patrolling the mansion was changed as a result of the alleged incident, the source said, to limit the time troopers are inside at night, as well as to reduce records of the names of visitors.
This is proof that politicians don't learn from the mistakes of others. Everyone should know by now it's not the sex that takes you down, it's the cover-up. Ask Clinton, it was the lying about the sex under oath that got him into real trouble. Ask John Edwards, it was the sloppy cover-up attempt using one of his staffers as a fall guy and the alledged use of campaign funds as hush money that is keeping his story alive and his career dead. Look at Spitzer, he admitted it, fell on his sword and now is poised for a come back. Has Paterson learned, nope. Instead he tries to move the trooper schedule around to suit the needs of his extra curricular activities, and as should be expected, lots of questions have followed.
Gov. Paterson has barred state troopers from entering the governor's mansion anytime he or his family is there, the Daily News has learned.
He quietly implemented the policy after a number of incidents in which the governor and First Lady Michelle Paige Paterson were "startled" by troopers, an aide said.
Sources say the policy, enacted a year ago, was recently tightened after troopers walked in on the governor unannounced and he became "irate."
So let's recap. Now at a crucial time in our country, when the Democrats need all hands on deck, Paterson is playing hide and seek with his side piece and the state troopers in his mansion. Maybe polticians have too much free time on their hands. Maybe in their downtime they need to work at some homeless shelters, or pick up trash in the park or something to keep them out of trouble. We don't need time and taxpayer dollars being wasted on politicians covering up their side pieces or on investigations trying to uncover the cover-up.
What I would like to know from all of the politicians who have had their careers go up in smoke over chasing tail, was it worth it? Was it worth losing your career, your political clout, and some of your present and future earnings all for a taste of the strange? Really, not to be crass, but is the punanny that powerful?
