"I don't think the issue's about being against gay marriage. It's about being for traditional marriage and articulating the reason that's important. You have to have a basic family structure. There's never been a civilization that has rewritten what marriage and family means and survived. So there is a sense in which, you know, it's one thing to say if people want to live a different way, that's their business. But when you want to redefine what family means or what marriage means, then that's an issue that should require some serious and significant debate in the public square."Read source and comments:
I don't know about you - but I feel the following would be my top picks that have the most ability to directly destroy any civilization: War, Nuclear Weapons, Plague, Nazism, Tsunami, Earthquakes, a Meteorite, Earth Gravitational Misalignment ........ But Gay Marriage ????
You may say I am taking the Huckster's response out of content - but, its election time - the Bushster and many other Conservative Republicians have played the "Gay Marriage" card to alarm and booster votes.
Lets take this debate to the heart of the matter. It has been said many times that "Gay Marriage would destroy the Sanctity of Marriage" .... hmmm, I thought Divorce did that trick ... but I digress.
Lets ask a Straight Married Couple - for example, we meet a Happily-Married John and Mary and this couple is exposed to Adam and Steve - who have recently tied the knot. Would the mere visible and productive presence of Adam and Steve have any impact in destroying the marriage sanctity of John and Mary? Would their presence destroy the engagement of John and Mary's daughter Beth to her fiance Jeff?
The Sanctity of Marriage is only as good as the 2 individuals who made a vow, commitment and dedication to each other. No external factor would be able to destroy that.
As Far-fetched and absurb as my scenario may be -
Gay men and women have heard similar and equally ridiculous rhetorics from Conservative politicians. These politicians have went further ahead to eliminate basic humane Rights for Gay Men and Women everywhere.
Now - step away from the US view on Gay Marriage and see ....

Around the world, countries are coming to terms with how to treat and acknowledge homosexual couples — and the trend in many is toward liberalizing laws.
But here in the US, what seems to all boils down to is the Christian Fundamentalism in Politicians dictating and ruling what should or should not occur in the rights of private indivduals. There is absolutely no separation of Church and State. Theocracy becomes the norm.
When you allow Religion to make and control the decisions and rights of private citizens - this, in my opinion, is the initial spark to the End of Civilization.
