OMFG! Its slowly becoming a fact - the loudest and most angry anti-gay fundamentalists are the ones who are self-loathing and repressing themselves. George Alan Rekers, a Baptist minister, co-founded the Family Research Council with James Dobson and is one of the nation's leading anti-gay activists. He hired a gay escort to accompany him on a recent trip to Europe. Maybe he hired this young man so that he can "Pray the Gay Away" - at $200 an hour!
In certain circles, Baptist minister Dr. George Rekers, is renowned for his views – specifically his views on gays. He’s even a co-founding board member of the Family Research Council, a political offshoot of James Dobson’s Focus on the Family. And he’s a rabid opponent of gay adoption and gay marriage, and a proponent of gay-to-straight conversion.
One of Rekers’ colleagues on the Family Research Council’s original board of directors was another religious crazy by the name of Tony Perkins.
It would seem that Professor Rekers was photographed at the Miami airport as he returned from an overseas vacation… and in the company of a male prostitute he had hired through a website called “RentBoy.com.”
They had just deplaned from flying into Miami from Madrid.
But, explained Rekers when questioned by a Miami New Times reporter who was waiting for him upon his arrival:
“I had surgery and I can’t lift luggage. That’s why I hired him.”
Rekers, however, didn’t deny that he recruited the slender young blond through the Rent Boy website, but told the reporter he didn’t realize his companion was a gay hustler until halfway through their vacation together. Link

George Rekers has also influenced American government, serving in advisory roles with Congress, the White House, and the Department of Health and Human Services and testifying as a state's witness in favor of Florida's gay adoption ban. A former research fellow at Harvard University and a distinguished professor of neuropsychiatry at the University of South Carolina, Rekers has published papers and books by the hundreds, with titles like Who Am I? Lord and Growing Up Straight: What Families Should Know About Homosexuality.
"While he keeps a low public profile, his fingerprints are on almost every anti-gay effort to demean and dehumanize LGBT people," says Wayne Besen, a gay rights advocate in New York City and the executive director of Truth Wins Out, which investigates the anti-gay movement. "His work is ubiquitously cited by lobby groups that work to deny equality to LGBT Americans. Rekers has caused a great deal of harm to gay and lesbian individuals."
