Even though he was married (with 3 children), there have been circumstantial evidences suggesting that he may have some erotic interest in men. This is definitely controversial and certainly not widely discussed or brought up by the Boy Scouts of America.

In my opinion, I admire this man - his history, his vision, his legecy.
The boy scouts has been a major influence in my childhood and its something I will always treasure. But today - where being gay and athetist is more acceptable and tolerated, how could the BSA ignore these identities and facts??
Boys and Girls are children and they all need guidance and direction. How can an organization refuse membership to children just because they identify themselves as being gay or athetist. They keep referring to their policy and belief that these "lifestyles" are not Biblically based.
The BSA is like some of the slimy politicians of today - these politicians would quote and proclaim the founding fathers of our Constitution as being Biblically-inspired.
And yet - keep in mind how discriminatory several of our Founding Fathers were - many of them owned and traded Slaves and treated women as second class unfit to vote and hold a job.
