NJ Poised to Repeal the Death Penalty

The state of New Jersey is about to do something right.  NJ is about to repeal the death penalty. This move will abolish the death penalty option in NJ and replace the current sentences with life in prison. Governer Corzine has promised to sign off on the bill.

All I can say is finally.  Finally someone has seen the light.  The death penalty should not be an option in our current climate.  The justice system makes too many mistakes.  Things are too unfair.  You can't undo a bad conviction for a dead man.

One person, just one, wrongly put to death is too damn many.  Can you imagine the terror and agony of a person wrongly accused of a crime and then sentenced to die.  Can you imagine the thoughts going through their head as they are strapped down for execution. Now that is cruel and unusal punishment.

It's too easy to get caught up in the "justice" system.  Being at the wrong place at the wrong time, looking the wrong way can turn your life into a nightmare overnight.  God help you are not new to the system, the assumption is that you are guilty, and you have to prove otherwise.  Funny, when I went to school I was told it was the other way around.

Life in prison is punishment enough for violent criminals.  Prison is not nice or fun.  Let the criminals that deserve it stay in jail so they can think about what they have done, or if they have no remorse just let them live in a tiny cell with others like them. But at least alive in jail, if there is a mistake, we can go back, correct it and try to make it right.
